Finding Help During A Career Change

Tell us about your role at MCSG.

I am one of 2 Senior Recruiters with the company who source and hire talent for our current and future contracts.  Melissa Sloan, my counter-part, and I perform full lifecycle recruiting operations and are the first interaction potential candidates have with someone from our company.  It is our responsibility, and one not taken lightly, to represent our company in a professional and genuine manner – we are their first impression.

 

What do you find interesting about your role at MCSG?

I love the diversity of the contracts and correlated positions that Melissa and I have the opportunity to recruit and hire for.  The people who we work with have many unique skillsets and it is always exciting to learn more about what their jobs entail and how they benefit the greater good.  Our contracts range from Indian Health Services (IHS) and working hand-in-hand with our Native American Tribes to supporting the Air Force’s Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities (TENCAP) program.

 

What have you learned so far from working at MCSG?

I’ve learned that while a company needs to generate revenue, it should not be at the expense of their employees well-being.  The way our leadership team approaches new and current business demonstrates how a company can achieve sustainable growth and success while maintaining and very positive culture.  They achieve WITH our employees.

 

What surprised you about your job at MCSG?

The amount of collaboration and sharing of new ideas is so strongly encouraged.  Ideas are never discounted and while not all of them are going to materialize into actions, there is never a feeling that you are not being heard.

 

What challenge(s) have you faced since working at MCSG and how has the company helped you overcome it(them)?

We operate in a fairly competitive and tight industry and our available market has shrunk over the last 10 years, which does make it challenging to find new talent for our positions.  It is so vital to differentiate ourselves from our competitors, and we have recognized that.  We have placed a large emphasis on expanding our digital marketing efforts to bring more awareness to who we are and what we do, and the leadership team has supported those efforts in every possible way.  Now when Melissa and I engage with candidates, we are starting to see more understanding from them on who we are.

 

Why is MCSG a good place to work?

MCSG fosters an environment where employees are trusted and empowered, and this is what attracted me to the company as well.  I was not aware of this when I initially applied, but during my interview and the weeks leading up to my first day, that sense became nearly tangible.  I was in the midst of one of the most difficult career and life decisions, and the understanding demonstrated by the people here gave me all the confidence I needed to make the change.  They trust in me and my abilities, and equally as importance, they listen and act on the recommendations that will assist the recruiting team in achieving success.

 

What do you think people should know about MCSG?

We are a company comprised of people who follow-through and backup our words with actions.  We have a deep-rooted belief in supporting the communities that we depend on and who depend on us, so much so that each employee receives paid time off to conduct volunteer activities every year.

 

What advice would you give to someone who wants to apply for a job at MCSG?

You have nothing to lose and there is much to be gained.  If you enjoy a positive work environment and one where your work is valued, then you should truly consider exploring a career

 

What’s a good tip for someone who’s going to interview for an opportunity at MCSG?

Be yourself, embrace who you are, and let that come through in the interview.  We would not have arrived at the interview stage if you did not possess the skills and qualifications, so what we are really looking for in an interview is someone who can be a strong team player and a positive addition to our company.
